THE Best Caribbean Cabin Charter Experience
Ahoy there!
We are on our way back to the Caribbean – yippee! Yes, we are in Barbados right now and later today we head on to Grenada and Nemo ✈️ ? ☀️ ⛵️.
We have had a busy socially distant summer visiting family and making sure our sailing licences are all up to date whilst managing the usual Nemo TLC projects from afar.
We can’t wait to get out on the water again on Nemo and nor can she! Until then we put a little compilation together to remind us how much fun the Caribbean cabin charter experience is on her!
Cooking Up A Storm!
Upskilling is always something we like to do and this summer it was Sam’s turn to focus on her cookery skills.
Whilst Sam gets rave reviews for her cooking during our charters, there is always room for improvement, so over the last two weeks, Sam has been at Ashburton Cookery School on the Yacht Chef Course cooking up a storm in the kitchen in preparation for next season on Nemo.
Check out these dishes she whipped up during the course and look out for Nemo’s updated menu coming out soon.
Our Commercial Requirements
Interested in understanding what we need to be certified to work commercially as crew on a charter yacht? In addition to having a Yachtmaster certificate (Neil has YM Ocean and Sam has YM Offshore), we have to revalidate our commercial licence every five years.
To get it we take an STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers) course that includes sea survival, first aid, firefighting as well as environmental and security awareness training. That’s Sam about to put out a fire and practising her sea survival techniques this September!
In addition, we have to take a medical every two years (ENG 1) and of course, we have to have over 150 days of sea time in the last five years. We definitely have no problem meeting that goal as we live on Nemo for a minimum of nine months a year!
Oh, and Nemo has to also get inspected every year too, to keep her Commercial Category 2 Coding.
NEW: Yacht Charter Crew Course
Is a sailing holiday one of your dream vacations, but you haven’t been on a boat before and are uncertain what to expect?
Over the last four years of running yacht charters in the Caribbean, we have had many guests who have never stepped foot on a boat before. Some of them suggested it would be great to get some insights into being a guest or ‘crew’ on a yacht before joining us on board Nemo.
So during the lockdown, we prepared the Yacht Charter Crew Course with our online sail training partner, NauticEd.
So, if you haven’t been on a sailing boat before and you want to familiarise yourself with the basics of being a guest on a boat, this is the course for you.
Perhaps you have booked on a crewed yacht charter for the first time? Maybe you are joining a family sailing holiday or a friend’s bareboat charter for the first time? This course will help you familiarise yourself with the basics, so you will feel comfortable when you step onboard.
Planning A Yacht Charter in a Pandemic
Are you looking to book a sailing holiday but are not sure how to plan given the pandemic?

We have lots of insights to share with you as you start planning your next sailing vacation. These include guidance to help you plan your sailing itineraries.
