COVID-19 Notice: Advice for booking your next yacht charter with BlueFoot Travel

The Environment

Support, Respect & Enjoy

With the wind in your hair and the water lapping against the hull, you really do feel at one with the environment when you are at sea or anchored in a bay on Nemo. Even more so if you are lucky enough to have dolphins joining you at the bow for some surfing, a whale breaching on the horizon, pelicans bobbing in the shallows and turtles munching on sea grass beds.

We wish to protect the environment as much as we can in the way we manage BlueFoot Travel. These are some of the initial ways in which we have started to do so, and we plan to do even more as we grow.  If you have any additional ideas on what we can do to protect the environment, please contact us.

Animal Adoption

We ‘adoped’ a Blue Footed Booby, Green Sea Turtle, Bottlenose Dolphin, Brown Pelican, Humpback Whale and Harbour Seal through the WWF. Whilst this is only a symbolic adoption, this supports WWF’s global efforts to protect wild animals and their habitats.

Water Management

Caribbean countries have been implementing various measures to control the use of water as the region experiences a prolonged drought, in many islands this includes water rationing. During our sailing trips we encourage sensible use of the water on board. We ask that water is not left running when washing up, cleaning, and showering. We have also installed a water maker that converts seawater into potable water

Plastic Reduction

To reduce our plastic waste, we use island water that is filtered on board by carbon and particle filters instead of buying distilled water in plastic bottles. We provide 18oz stainless steel water bottles from Simple Modern for use by our guests during their trips with us. We also have a soda stream so we can make carbonated water onboard instead of buying bottles or cans.

Many of the Caribbean islands are eliminating the use of plastic bags, which we actively support. We use reusable bags for our shopping and we only use plastic bags for the collection of waste.

Waste Disposal

We abide by MARPOLs international waste disposal guidelines including the use of holding tanks.

Local Produce

We use local produce where possible to reduce emission impact and support local communities.

Green Products

We use reef safe and phosphate free products where available and encourage guests to bring reef safe and phosphate free products with them on their sailing holiday.

Solar Energy

We currently use Luci Lights in our cockpit and in the grab bags for our liferafts. We installed solar panels onto our bimini in 2019.
